CDGPS is a wide area DGPS service that was initially developed for the Canadian positioning market. It provides unmatched accuracy and coverage for positioning applications throughout Canada, with collateral equivalent benefits extending across North America. As a wide-area satellite-based service the broadcast CDGPS corrections can be accessed anywhere MSAT coverage is available, using CDGPS-enabled GPS receivers or legacy MSAT CDGPS radios. The correction data - based on world-class algorithms developed by Natural Resources Canada and positioning data from Canadian and IGS reference stations - is optimized for North America, resulting in superior metre-level accuracy with mapping grade, single frequency GPS receivers and sub-metre accuracy with dual frequency technology.
The service is being offered as a free utility, with no recurring subscription charges, to support and stimulate Canadian industry. It will appeal to end-users who need affordable, accurate positioning data for real-time applications. CDGPS has been developed in a collaborative partnership between the provincial territorial and federal governments of Canada and has been approved as a national DGPS standard for surveying and mapping applications. Compared to existing solutions, CDGPS provides better coverage and performance, a superior technology platform for continued accuracy improvements, plus the comfort of working with the Canadian Spatial Reference System standard.
